Drop test at Esrange

Autonomous Systems

Unprecedented possibilities to test vehicles and sensors

Autonomous systems are transforming the way we live and work by enabling machines to operate independently, adapt to changing environments, and make decisions without human intervention.

SSC provides one of Europe’s largest testing areas for autonomous systems such as UAS (Unmanned Aerial System) and drones.

Vast uninhabited ground areas

Autonomous systems are revolutionizing how we explore, operate, and innovate—on Earth and beyond. These systems, which include technologies like drones, self-driving vehicles, and robotic platforms, are designed to perform tasks with minimal human intervention, often in complex or remote environments.

At Esrange Space Center, we provide one of Europe’s largest and most versatile testing areas for autonomous systems, including unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and drones. With over 5,000 km² of uninhabited ground and 6,600 km² of restricted airspace, it gives unprecedented possibilities to test and operate both vehicles and sensors.
